Surgeons Restore Sight and Forge Connections in Panama

An ophthalmologist from the Medical Readiness Training Exercise (MEDRETE)- Panamax Alpha 2023, implants the new intraocular lens (IOL) in a patient's eye after successfully removing the cloudy lens during manual small incision cataract surgery at Regional Hospital Dr. Luis "Chicho" Fabrega in Santiago de Veraguas, Panama, July 18, 2023. An ocular biometry eye test is performed prior to surgery to obtain the measurement of anatomical dimensions of the eye, which include corneal curvature (keratometry), axial length, and anterior chamber depth which ensures each patient receives the correct IOL.
