59th MDW: Kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the 59th Medical Wing

The 59th Medical Wing is hosting a series of breast cancer awareness events throughout the month of October.

There will be a lecture series beginning Oct. 6 with Dr. Troy Graybeal, radiation oncologist. The lecture series will continue Oct. 13 with Dr. Mamie Stull, oncologist and conclude Oct. 21 with survival stories from Charlotte Davis and Minnie Morales. All lectures will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gateway Club and require reservation. Get your reservation by calling 210-292-7978 or 210-292-6254.

There will also be a Breast Cancer Awareness patient information table at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center on Oct. 5, Oct. 14, Oct. 19 and Oct. 28. Stop by the health promotions table between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for more information.

On Oct. 25 the WHASC Women’s Health Clinic will be conducting a Pap-A-Thon for those currently due or overdue for a pap smear and mammogram. The clinic will be taking walk-ins from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All patients are asked to report to the Women's Health Clinic for check-in.

Through these events, the 59th MDW raises awareness and emphasizes the importance of detecting the early stages of breast cancer.
