Airman Medical Transition Unit (AMTU)

The Airman Medical Transition Unit provides administrative oversight, complex case management, and comprehensive transition planning in support of wounded, ill, or injured (WII) Airman during their recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration phase of care.

Lodging

Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center (WHASC) - JBSA Lackland AFB

• Fisher House I, II, III – All lodging fees for guest families at this house are paid through a grant from Fisher House Foundation. Please reach out to the Fisher House for more information, and eligibility.

 

• Gateway Inn – All lodging fees for guest families at this house are paid through a grant from Fisher House Foundation. Please reach out to the Fisher House for more information, and eligibility.

 

Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) – Ft Sam Houston

• Liberty Barracks (Fort Sam Houston) – Contact AMTU to coordinate lodging prior to departure. Liberty Barracks requires a minimum of 72 hour notice for room request. Medical TDY Orders must be provided.

 

• Fisher House I, II, III, IV – All lodging fees for guest families at this house are paid through a grant from Fisher House Foundation. Please reach out to the Fisher House for more information, and eligibility.

 

• Candlewood Suites Building 2426 – All guest rooms at Candlewood Suites offer kitchenettes with full-sized refrigerators and stove tops, and include additional amenities. Nearby post facilities include the Post Exchange, Commissary, The Jimmy Brought Fitness Facility, Aquatic Center with a water park and Salado Park.

 

• Holiday Inn Express Powless House – They are located across from The Center for the Intrepid, the Fisher House and Brooke Army Medical Center. They are also eight miles from San Antonio International Airport. Nearby post facilities include the Post Exchange, Commissary, The Jimmy Brought Fitness Facility, Aquatic Center with a water park and Salado Park. Downtown San Antonio is home to the River Walk, the iconic Alamo and a host of other major attractions.
