Trainee Health Surveillance Element

We monitor trends in infectious disease illnesses and injuries in basic military trainees and technical trainees. Span of preventive measures includes engineering, administrative, and personal controls for illnesses such as influenza and adenovirus, and injuries such as stress fractures and heat injury. Additional services include screening using the Biographical Evaluation and Screening of Troops Program, identification of outbreaks and other significant illnesses, and active intervention for identified issues. Services provided include operational optometry eye care, aircrew eye exams, Aircrew Soft Contact Lens Program, Basic Military Training accession eye exam processing, and basic military training waiver development. Walk-in spectacle services are limited to active duty only.
