SAMHS COVID-19 Testing Sites Update

By Courtesy

The JBSA Drive-thru sites (BAMC parking garage, Lackland parking garage, or Randolph clinic) are the primary location for all non-emergent COVID-19 screening/testing.  All Tricare beneficiaries and designated mission essential GS employees can expect to be screened and tested if the following criteria is met:
- Patients with flu-like or COVID symptoms
- Pre-op/Pre-chemo/Pre-procedure patients
- Deployers/re-deployers, TDY or those PCSing Overseas who are directed to test
- Asymptomatic patients with close contact exposure (cumulative 15 min exposure/24 hours, within 6 ft, no mask worn, and last exposure occurred within 2 days of POSITIVE member developing symptoms (or within 2 days of them testing POSITIVE).  Patients in this category will be tested on Day 5 post exposure.
- Patients directed to test by Public Health or a Medical Provider

None of the JBSA testing sites can perform COVID-19 tests for leisure travel, college entry, nursing home visits, etc., as those reasons are not covered by TRICARE, nor are they included in the Tier 0 - 4 testing criteria.

Patients who do not meet the COVID-19 testing criteria but who still desire a test may find resources through the city of San Antonio using the following link:
https://covid19.sanantonio.gov/What-YOU-Can-Do/Testing/List-of-Testing-Locations-in-Bexar-County.

NOTE: Some "FREE" COVID testing sites advertised throughout the city often ask for health insurance information so you may still be billed if you utilize their service.  Per Humana, testing within the network will only be covered with a medical provider's order or for symptoms.
